Exhibition Summary: The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) presents its first art exhibition at Mohican State Park. The exhibition will feature works of art by Ohio folk and traditional artists.Traditional arts” are part of the cultural heritage of a group of people whose members share a common ethnic heritage, language, religion, occupation, or geographic region.

Eligibility Requirements: Entrants must be living Ohio residents, 18 years and older. ODNR employees are not eligible to apply.

Exhibition Information:  The juried exhibition will be presented at Mohican State Park from Friday, November 1, 2024, through Friday, January 3, 2025. Only work appropriate for display in a public building will be considered.

Artists may submit one application with up to three separate artworks for consideration with a maximum of six images per artist (to allow for alternate views of a work or a detail). Initial parameters include the following: 

  • Work must be original and executed within the past three years. 
  • AI generated work will not be accepted.
  • Artwork must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. 
  • Only two-dimensional works are accepted. Recommended size for work is up to 24" wide x 36" long. Larger works may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis. 
  • Two-dimensional work must be wired and ready to hang and may not exceed 35 pounds each. 
  • Work must be dry. 

Selection Review Process:

The jury process is anonymous and is based on the work submitted for the exhibition. In an effort to present exhibits of merit and significance, work must be evaluated by objective guidelines. An artwork need not meet all of the criteria in order to be accepted for exhibition. When judging the quality of the artwork submitted, several standards and combinations of standards may be used, such as:  

  • Suitability of subject, technique, and style for the intended audience 
  • Vitality and originality 
  • Artistic expression and experimentation 
  • Creative and inventive use of the medium 
  • Technical proficiency in the use of the medium/media 

Artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance the week of October 13, 2024. Notification will be by email from the ArtCall.org site. 

Artwork Drop-Off Date and Time: Accepted artists artwork drop-off date and time: Monday, October 28 and Tuesday, October 29, between 10 am and 3 pm. Accepted artwork should be delivered to 1098 County Road 3006, Perrysville, OH 44864. No adjustments can be made to the delivery schedule; late submissions will not be accepted. Friends and family may deliver artwork if the artist is unavailable. Work must be delivered with appropriate packaging and protection material. 

If You are Shipping Your Accepted Artwork: Shipped works should be sent to the following address: Attn: Alissa Ohashi, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, 2045 Morse Rd. Columbus, OH, 43229 and received by October 25th. Shipped work must include return shipping costs and return address information. 

Exhibition Dates: Friday, November 1, 2024 –Friday, January 3, 2025

Exhibition Reception: Saturday, November 16, 2024

Artwork Pickup Date and Time: Monday, January 6th and Tuesday, January 7th between 10 am and 4 pm. Accepted artwork should be picked up at 3116 OH-3, Loudonville, OH 44842. No adjustments can be made to the pick-up schedule. Friends and family may pick up artwork if the artist is unavailable. 

Liability and Insurance: Every care will be taken for the safety of all works of art. ODNR, its officers, and agents, and concessionaires will not be responsible for any loss or damage. ODNR does not insure entries. Works will be handled and exhibited at the artists' risk. 

Artwork Sales: Submitted artwork does not have to be available for sale. Visitors interested in purchasing work will be provided contact information to contact artist directly to purchase work.
